Bachelor of Economy

The Bachelor of Economics (BE) offered by the Faculty of Economics and Management, UKM is the pioneer among economics programs in Malaysia that has produced many well-known and prominent economists in the country. This programme is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills in the field of economics that allows graduates to apply economics-related knowledge in organisational planning, policy development, research and decision making in organisations. Focus areas include international and industrial economics, monetary and fiscal economics, econometrics, economic development and Islamic economics. PROGRAMME SUMMARY

The Faculty of Information Science and Technology offers 2 programs, the Master Program and Doctor of Philosophy Program.

The goal of the Master and PhD program is to prepare the next generation of leading researchers. The Master and PhD is a program of an independent, self-directed academic research degree, supported by a team of supervisors that makes an original contribution to knowledge written up in a publishable thesis and high impact journals. The programs also support the development of research and generic skills to equip students to operate successfully as a professional researcher in any setting.

Programme Offered

Master in Information Technology

  1. A Bachelor Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or other universities approved by the Senate with a Cummulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) ≥3.50; or
  2. Other relevant qualifications or experience approved by the Senate

English Language Requirements:
1. Score not less than 550 in TOEFL; or not less than 5.5 in IELTS for particular programme.
2. International students who have the academic qualifications obtained from any local university approved by the Senate will be exempted from requirement but are required to take Cambridge English Placement Test (CEPT). Student who not pass will need to take the HEET Training Programme.
3. Faculty/Institute may grant exceptions to the English requirement for international students from countries with English as the official language or have academic qualifications obtained from institutions that use English as a medium of instruction.

Malay Language Requirements:
LMCM1083 Communicative Malay Language for International Student

Programe Structure:
1. Faculty Courses (4 Units) – Research Methodology.
2. Proposal Defense and Research Progress
3. Thesis (36 units)
4. Publication Requirement – Candidates are required to produce at least ONE publication comprised of 1 journal article (ISI/Scopus).”

Doctor of Philosophy

Programe Structure:
1. Doctor of Philosophy programme requires a candidate to do a research in the selected field and take the Research Methodology course. At the end of the programme, the candidate is required to prepare a thesis. The thesis has to be presented and defended in an oral examination which will be examined by examiners appointed by the faculty. Throughout the course of study, candidates are required to adhere to the following requirements :
2. Faculty Courses (4 Units) – Student must take and pass the Research Methodology course.
3. Proposal Defense and Research Progress
Student is required to submit research proposal and progress to the committee members between 6 months to 2 years of their study in order to continue their study at PhD level. Failure to submit their research proposal and progress may cause their studies to be terminated.
4. Publication Requirement
Students are required to produce at least TWO publications with a minimum of 2 journal articles (ISI/Scopus).”
