Bachelor of Economy

The Bachelor of Economics (BE) offered by the Faculty of Economics and Management, UKM is the pioneer among economics programs in Malaysia that has produced many well-known and prominent economists in the country. This programme is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills in the field of economics that allows graduates to apply economics-related knowledge in organisational planning, policy development, research and decision making in organisations. Focus areas include international and industrial economics, monetary and fiscal economics, econometrics, economic development and Islamic economics. PROGRAMME SUMMARY

The Doctor of Philosophy of Islamic Studies in Faculty of Islamic Studies UKM offers five (5) specializations namely: Shariah, Usuluddin and Philosophy, Arabic Studies, and Islamic Civilization, Da’wah and Leadership Studies, and Quran and Sunnah Studies. The specializations are five (5) core areas that form the basis of contemporary Islamic issues. All programs offered have been recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). LIFE AT THE FACULTY

Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia is the first faculty welcoming all UKM students to the main campus. The building is located near the main entrance of UKM Bangi, strategically build-up opposite UKM’s mosque with greenery nature, creating a calm and fresh ambiance to the student. The faculty also provides facilities such as Datin Andek Masnah Resource and Documentation Room, Karel Room / Graduate Discussion Room, Association Room, Computer Lab, Audio Visual Laboratory and so on to support graduate needs. Students will also be closely guided by experienced supervisors to plan and determine the direction of research and the impact of publications throughout their studies. Furthermore, the Secretariat of Postgraduate Studies also organizes academic programs and visits for the student from time to time.

The Faculty of Islamic Studies is well known for its research opportunities and access to renowned scholars. On a beautiful campus, students will be able to work closely with lecturers and researchers who are always ready to guide them and establish meaningful relationships with their peers.

Programme Offered

Master of Islamic Studies

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Studies with a good Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from UKM or
    any Institutions of Higher Learning recognized by the Senate; or
  2. Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Studies and have other qualifications or
    experience recognized by the Senate; or
  3. Candidates WITHOUT qualifications or working experience in the field of Islamic Studies, but interested
    in conducting cross-disciplinary studies with the field of Islamic Studies, must take prerequisite courses
    and meet the minimum CGPA set by the Program; and
  4. Meet other requirements set by the program (if applicable); and
  5. Meet the requirements of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA); and

Language Requirements.
a. Malaysian graduates (who use CGPA): minimum 2.75 or; 2.50 to 2.74 and pass the internal evaluation by the Committee at the Faculty.
b. Overseas graduates (who use CGPA): minimum 2.75 or; 2.50 to 2.74 and pass the internal evaluation by the Committee at the Faculty.
c. Overseas graduates (who does not use CGPA): Minimum Maqbul (45%-54%)
d. Malaysian & Southeast Asian Students:60%; or 55% and 3 years of work experience in a relevant field; or 55% and rigorous internal assessment
e. Middle Eastern students 60%;
f. Moroccan/Iranian Graduates (Malaysian Students) (10/20) equivalent to a minimum CGPA of 2.75
g. Shubra graduate (who does not use CGPA) Jayyid (55-69%) or 54% and 3 years of work experience in a related field. Language Requirements: English language An international candidate must meet the English Language competency requirements by obtaining the
minimum score or band results which is TOEFL iBT (30-34) or TOEFL pBT (396-416) or IELTS (4.0) or MUET Level 2.0 (Band 2.0). The score results must be submitted in your application. International students who have the academic qualifications obtained from any local university approved by the Senate will be exempted from requirement but are required to take Cambridge English Placement Test (CEPT). Student who not pass will need to take the HEET Training Programme. Faculty may grant exemption to the English language competency requirement if;

  • International students from countries where English is the official language; or
  • International students using academic qualifications from institutions that use English as the medium of instruction.

Graduation requirements:

  1. Must register and complete Research Method Courses, Arabic Courses and University Pre-requisite course
  2. Present research proposal dan Full Thesis through oral examination
  3. Publish 1 article in journal from any of the categories below:
    a. Journal ERA/Scopus/WoS Journal;
    b. Journal by UKM Press or any Faculty/Institute or listed in MyJurnal (Malaysian Journal Management System) from MyCite;
    c. Chapters in book published by renowned publishers in WoS or UKM Press or MAPIM
    Malay Language Requirement: LMCM1083 Communicative Malay Language for International Student. PPPY6283 Research Method

Doctor of Philosophy

  1. A Master’s Degree from UKM or any institution of Higher learning recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and/or having accreditation recognized by an overseas Accreditation Body, or an institution having accreditation as prescribed by a program; or
  2. Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s Degree or having other qualifications with experience recognized by the Senate; or
  3. Faculty students who is currently attending a full time Master’s program (fully research) and get an approval from the Program Evaluation Committee of the Faculty to convert his status to a Doctorate programme with the approval of Dean of the Faculty; or
  4. Bachelor’s Degree with excellent results from the University or any higher learning institution recognised by the Senate; or
  5. Other qualifications recognised by the Senate and through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL); or
  6. Meet the requirements of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA); or
  7. Candidates WITHOUT qualifications or work experience in the field of Islamic Studies, but interested in conducting cross-disciplinary studies with the field of Islamic Studies, must take appropriate prerequisite courses and meet the minimum requirements set by the Program; and
  8. Fulfils other requirements prescribed by the programme (if applicable); and
  9. Fulfils Language Requirements.
    Language Requirements: English language
  10. An international candidate must meet the English Language competency requirements by obtaining the minimum score or band results which is TOEFL iBT (30-34) or TOEFL pBT (396-416) or IELTS (4.0) or MUET Level 2.0 (Band 2.0). The score results must be submitted in your application.
    a. International students who have the academic qualifications obtained from any local university approved by the Senate will be exempted from requirement but are required to take Cambridge English Placement Test (CEPT). Student who not pass will need to take the HEET Training Programme.

    1. Attend and complete Pre-requisite course (if required)
    2. Present research proposal in semester 1 or 2;
    3. Present Full Thesis that does not exceed 100,000 words through oral examination
    4. Publish 2 articles in indexed journal Scopus/Wos or; at least 1 articles in journal Scopus/WoS and 1 from any of the categories below:
    a. Journal by UKM Press or any Faculty/Institute or;
    b. Chapters in book published by renowned publishers in WoS or UKM Press or MAPIM
